2012-09-06 16.35.21.jpg2012-09-06 16.36.13.jpgHey all, new to the forum and MD'ing. Have a late 1700's through 1800's abandoned farmhouse in SE PA that seems to be unhunted to date. Found a ton of relics - mostly mule shoes and some apparent parts from old cultivators/planters etc... Found a musket ball along with a TON of cut nails. Nails almost made it impossible to hunt since there were constant pings. Found these two items with high tones - believe to be copper due to patina and would love some help with ID. First is obviously a padlock and seems more ornamental than purpose-made. Seems to have some engraving although no discernable writing. About 0.5" wide and 0.75" tall. Would love some more info if anyone can provide. The other item is a real mystery. Appears to be stamped copper sheet, is 3" long and 2" wide. Fairly thin gauge which would lead me to think more ornamental than functional. Pretty sure not a buckle since it is so thin and flimsy. Was thinking perhaps a hair holder of some sort or perhaps a broach or ??? Would love some insight into what this is and potential age. The lock was found on the surface and the heart was found about 8" deep. Thanks in advance, AJ.

PS, anyone looking for help MD'ing properties in Maryland, feel free to hit me up.

beleive it is in fact a sash buckle

I'd go all forensic on that site, if I had the time, I'd pull out every ping, taking my time, if I had a monopoly on the site that is.:icon_thumright:

Pretty sure it hasn't been hit yet. Used to ride my motorcycle back in these woods 20 years ago and there are several old stone homes back there that I have subsequently found on a mid-1800's PA atlas. Spent 2 full days MD'ing this first site and came up with a pile rusty iron and a few gems (at least in my eyes). Mapped it out and will be going back for a detailed exploration of the front of the house and what I believe is the well. That will be more of an archaeological dig then a MD'ing affair. Agreed on digging every ping, but after the first 50 nails I had to start skipping the small low tones to maintain my sanity.
