Got back to the park in Toronto today for about 3 hours. Hunted a fairly compact area as you can see by the area I've indicated in the photo, there's still a lot of park left to cover too. Still haven't found anything silver, but I came close with a silver plated cross today! Lots of coins here and most of these are sitting between 4 - 6 inches deep, so I know it's only a matter of time until I find something really good!

Having trouble figuring out what this blob of silver is; measures about 1" x 1/2". It hit really high in the nonferrous range, somewhere between copper & silver. It's not heavy enough for lead and too heavy to be aluminum? :dontknow: Any thoughts on this would be very much appreciated! :icon_thumright:

Thanks for looking, :hello:
Dave

PS. Found: a 1983 US Rosie, a 1953 & a 1957 CDN Penny.

Re: Lochleven Park - The 2nd Day's Finds!

silver will come but if it aint there it aint there sometimes.

Really like that cross - purdy! :icon_thumleft: Seems a lot left to cover in that park, keep on swinging. HH!

The "Blob" looks like solder to me. I have it in 2lb bars. Put it under a torch. If it melts in a few, it is solder.

Nice Looking Crucifix!
Whats going on with that 67 nickle? someone try to make a button?
I just look at the Canada coin melt values, all but nickles & cents had some silver till
late 1968.. I got a 67 Mackeral dime from the take a penny bowl once ;D
without a test kit, there's no way of telling if your 1967 coins are 80, or 50%, or if your 68s are 50 or 0% silver :icon_scratch: ,
well I assume the clads have a visible copper core like US coins
Best to you Dave \

You're probably right there fishbone. I never thought of solder . . . all I was think was, "is it silver!" :laughing7:

Hey Herbie! :hello:

Yeah, the "67 nickle looks like somebody soldered some type of button to the back of it, probably to be worn on a jacket or hat. :icon_scratch: I cooked it in some peroxide for about 20 mins and it cleaned up quite a bit.

By the way, what are you doing taking dimes out of the bowl, when you're only suppose to take out the pennies! :laughing7:

Thanks for the link buddy! :icon_thumright:

People when running lose coins and rings.

That's great advice Allen! :icon_thumright:
I'll keep that in mind when I get further into the infield!

No Dave you never mentioned your company was from Bangor ! I do not live in Bangor anymore, But you have an anytime open invite to come to Portland and hunt with me. and Herbie ain't far from me either ! GoldBill from Bangor is also a good friend of mine and I am sure he would take you out in Bangor if your time here is too limited to travel to the southern part of the state ! Let us know ! M.R.

Nice looking cross Dave. :hello2: Those ball fields are usually fairly productive for finding jewelry.
Good luck,
Doug

Thanks very much for the invitation M.R.! The City of Bangor is so full of history, I bet there's a ton of great spots to hunt! I've been to Bangor twice in the past 8 months and both times I was in and out in 3 days, I barely had enough time to assemble my detector! :laughing7: My last trip to the east I had to fly to Saint John, NB and the drive for 3 hours to get to Bangor. From now on I'll drive the 3 hours to Buffalo, NY and fly direct to Bangor! :laughing7:

The only place I'd really love to go to in Bangor, but haven't had the chance yet is . . . Dysarts! :love7:

Thanks buddy! :icon_thumright:
I went back today and found a lot of change . . . about $10 work, but still no jewellery! :icon_scratch: In one hole I found 3 quarters, 4 dimes and two nickles . . . most likely a pocket spill! ;D

I've only covered about 30% of the park so far and I still have another 60% left. I've put in about 10 hours here so, I just don't think I've hit the right spot yet, obviously! :laughing7:

Thanks for your interest Blaze,
Dave

Pretty sure it's not a meteorite.

What I like about your posting is that you're taking the time to work the area nice and slow. Too much silver is lost when someone tries to hurry, missing about half the area at the depth you indicate (4-6 inches). Unless you have specialized equipment, the best thing when hunting older areas such as this are to take your time.

I find Canadian coins in general are much more interesting than U.S. coins, just because of the variety. Plus you can legally melt the nickels, I think. <G>

You know what spitfire . . . you're the only one that's hazard a guess on what this thing might be! I've know idea either! :dontknow: It's only about 1" long by 1/2" wide, but does have some weight to it. I'm thinking maybe solder? :icon_scratch: I guess it'll just have to remain a mystery. It's nice to hear the sound of your voice though! :laughing7: For a while there i didn't think you could talk! :D
