Lizard vertebrae?

I found this on my trip to South Dakota. It looks to be a semi complete vertebrae. Too small to be a dinosaur, not a snake or fish. Could it be from an amphibian, lizard, maybe even a mammal.

To me, it looks like a very small snake vertebrae. I could be wrong, of course; it's difficult to ID a fragment.
 

Tiny thing. How did you manage to see it?
