Just dug this up and have no clue. If I had to guess its a piece of machinery. Solid iron on both sides (even though one side appears to be crimped in place. I broke through on that end with my shovel and it does appear to have some support inside. The rest is dirt.

Found at an old school

Any idea?

Really good guess fellas thanks.

Picture one looks like an exit wound, picture 2 looks like a round entrance wound. Possibly 45 caliber judging by the pictures. As far as what the object is, not sure. But it doesn't look like a jack stand.

I was well versed in the use of the bumper jack...I drove Mom's 72 Pontiac Catalina to school and work before I bought my own car...and that unit was a one-tire fryer...lol..I used to buy a wheel and tire from the local junkyard every 3-4 weeks, and Mom was always wondering why just the one right rear tire went bald...Oh, those were the days...99 cent gas and 10 dollar tires....ddf

Let me start at the beginning. The OP showed 2 pictures. In America we read from left to right. That being said, picture 1 ( on the left) looks like an exit wound. If you've ever shot a gun, then you've notice when you shoot something, when the bullet hits the target it makes a small round hole( picture 2, on the right). The impact mashes the projectile, and when it comes out of the target the hole it makes(exit wound ) is larger and misshaped.
As dirty and rusty as it is, it didn't look like a jack stand base. But the longer I look at it, it is starting to resemble one.

it looks like the base of a bumper jack to me too.

Don't take this wrong, but I have never heard of "wounded" sheet metal. I have shot tons of tin cans and other junk targets of opportunity over the years but never considered one to be wounded. I guess they were all one shot kills. :laughing7:
