I really don't think this will identified. It looks like a tiny piece of something. It weighs one gram and is copper in color but doesn't feel like copper and it got a "TH" on the flat side. I can't find silver coins or civil war items but I can find the hell out of stuff like these. Lucky me.

Looks like it could be a peice of a button or a coin that was cut by a mower.

Have you found more than one TH :icon_pirat:

One gram maybe used for weight? Is it gold ore melted and molded in shaped weights for prospectors to share/split or did they use them as game pieces?

Perhaps a Geiger Counter would help. TH denotes Thorium, a mildly radioactive metal with quite a long half-life. Silvery color when not oxidized. Rather rare in pure form but can be found. Is used in Coleman type lantern mantles and many other things. Was once used in a strange German toothpaste (for a brilliant radioactive smile - I'm not kidding). Note the TH on this element sample. The link is to the page it was on with much more on this element.

I don't suspect this little bit of metal to be thorium. Wrong color, wrong texture and it would feel like a little piece of lead in weight. This feel like nothing in weight. I believe it's just a piece of metal crap. It belongs with the aluminium caps from those mini liquor bottles and wadded up pieces of foil.

Maybe a local metal detecting hunting club (TH) had a competition and they didn't recover all the pieces? Obviously they should have invited you for the hunt.

Wasn't gold and silver coins and bullion cut into various sized pieces to use as "change" long ago when an abundance of coinage was scarce ???

The piece doesn't appear to be broken. You mentioned copper color look. It may be the light in the pic, but to me it does kind of look like there is gold in it?

I support the "change" idea.

Not buying the "change" idea?

Maybe it's a game piece for a board game :icon_pirat:?

I'm going with keyway, not for a crankshaft though, they come in many shapes and sizes and are used with many things. The TH stands for standard, CT would be for reversed.
