Little Metal Gun

Hey T-Net,

I was metal detecting in a park that has a playground, basketball court, and a picnic area. I mostly found clad, but I did stumble upon this little metal gun. I am not sure about it so any help would do.

Looking at it, there is absolutely no writing. The designs seem to be vinery plant-like. It is painted gold and has two rusted screws going through it. The barrel is hollow and the thing you cock back to fire the weapon is able to be pulled backward and will spring back into place. The trigger seems to be missing, but on the side of the gun seems to have a safety switch that is able to move from side to side. For a little gun it does have some weight.

Thanks for the help,
C.

I should have also mentioned that the trigger looks to be there, but it is recessed into the body like its real cousin would have. The weight comes from it being diecast. Lots of folks collect these critters, someone should be able to put a name on it since this one was probably pretty intricate for a toy.

This is a Shootin' Shell Derringer that fits in the Shootin' Shell Buckle Belt by Mattel in 1959. It iis supposed to be a copy of the Remington 1867 Derringer. We have sold several in our shop over the years. I have some photos of ones we've sold, and will post pics as soon as I locate the CD. Breezie

Here ya go Spooky shugar.

Oh, I might add: the derringer would pop out whenever the buckaroo would poke out his/her stomach; of course, the safety had to be off. It could also be removed from the buckle and played with individually. Some models had more ornate engraving.

Excuse my manners for forgetting to say: WELCOME to the forum! Breezie
