The US, China, the Eu , and Arab imirates are all in a mad dash to find more Lithium reserves. There is not enough available, as automotive manufacturers and battery companies scramble to find enough for the upcoming electric vehicle explosion. These countries are the major players spending billions to find and secure rights to known reserves. All the new electric cars will use this Lithium Ion technology. LI batterys are 1/3 lighter, 1-1/2 times more powerful and lasts 1-1/2 times longer between charges. As electric vehicles slowly overtake internal combustion engines, Lithium will be even more scarce, and costly. I need to see where it registers on my ID detctor. Gotta go. rockhound

You wont find it with a MD as it doesn't occur as a metal but as compounds in the earth.
It's not that rare , about the same abundance as nickel and lead and lead ore has been mined for centuries.

Regardless of how much they are charged (and even if they are not charged) they only last an average of 5 years.
