A homeowner avoided disaster on Monday morning after a lithium battery caught fire in his home in Ashland.

Just after 6:00am, Monday, emergency personnel were called to 603 Walnut Street in Ashland for a report of a house fire. The caller reported that lithium battery exploded in his home and was now on fire.

Assistant Fire Chief Charlie Orth was first on scene and reported smoke in the area and found the home filling with smoke.

The homeowner was able to get the battery outside into the street before firefighters arrived.

The homeowner told firefighters the battery was for an electric skateboard and the battery had been plugged in and charging when it caught fire.

the only thing I Charge these days is My Flip-phone .
and remove it from the charger once it is fully charged.
so far it hasn't even gotten warm to the touch.
not sure if att flip-phones have lithium batteries.

not curious enough to figure out how to get in at it :tongue3:

Our daughter just ordered a wireless computer keyboard and a waterproof wireless speaker for the shower. I'm wondering if all of these wireless tech items now come equipped with lithium batteries, this could become a real fire risk down the road. :icon_scratch:

Doing research on the lithium batteries because we have had 2 issues. Hand held radio batteries exploded and because of the shielding on the radios did not catch fire. They popped like a gun shot. You must not leave lithium batteries in direct sunlight they can self ignite at a temperature of 130 degrees. These are dangerous goods. Vehicles in Las Vegas are parked and the heat generated from the street and parking ramps cause the batteries to over heat and the cars ignite. One final word DONT cut or open a lithium battery you will be seriously burned with the rush of air that lithium loves. It is way worst then a road flare and they react with water.... Very dangerous Remember 130 degrees they can self ignite.

Dont fret... Lithium batts are going to be on their way out anyway...
Make way for the new tech that is on the horizon.
Silver Oxide is going to be the new thing soon.

Hunter1805 and ARC thank you for the info :)

surprising risks faced by EV owners that go beyond the usual fire hazards. Discover what could be lurking beneath the surface of your electric vehicle and learn why these issues might be more dangerous than you think. πŸš—πŸ”₯
