List Some Fossil Parks Open to The Public Here

Could you be more specific? What state or region of the country? If you are in or near SW Ohio I would be more than happy to take you out collecting the local Ordovician.

If you give me a particular state I would be able to be a little more helpful. Let us know.

You can dig for free in the Peace River in Polk, Hardee, Desoto & Charlotte Counties. My daughter and I met you on Miami Beach a year ago, come on over we will show you how to dig and find fossils!! ;D

Chuck: I'm in Long Island, NY but anywhere in the Northeast is fine. Thanks !

KrabJ: You are confusing me with my good friend TheBulgarian (Nicky) ;D

Penn Dixie, upstate NY. There is a fee. I was a member - one year membership was $35, I'm not sure what the daily fee is. Great site for trilobites. I took my kids and had a great time - found a bunch of great trilobites and marine fossils. Website is http://www.penndixie.org/

Ruccello - Thanks, I just went to the website you provided. Apparently daily fee is $7 for adult and $6 for kids. The park is already open for the 2011 season !!!

Chuck - That was an awesome find ! Wow

I hope to visit this Wyoming site this summer or fall. Looks interesting if a bit off the beaten track. They supply all you need, kids are OK and they charge by the hour, half day or full day.

Our quarries are located near Kemmerer, Wyoming - home of Fossil Butte National Monument. Warfield Fossil Quarries are part of the Green River Lake system, and are located in the Fossil Lake Basin.

The fossils found in the Green River Foundation are between 40-60 million years old (Eocene Age), and are in excellent preservation. After collection, the fossils are cleaned and prepared in our studio 120 miles north of the quarry in Thayne Wyoming.

We specialize in the collection and preparation of fossils for private and public collections world-wide.

2011 Season Update by Gene Boardman

Our 2011 season opened on March 25.

This spring, Shane prepared the backhoe for some serious excavations on the highly productive "fifteen foot" layer, exposing the rich fossil rock and made some great shelves for collecting.

Bevan Hardy and I will be the quarry operators serving you again this year and Max will be back for most of the summer. We will be able to provide fossil preparation and cleaning demonstrations most of the time. As always, we will have the cleanest and finest restroom (a "Porti-Potty") for forty miles in any direction.

It is going to be a good year at U-DIG. We hope you can join us!

Geode Bonanza 2011

Our first annual 2011 Geode Bonanza is a spectacular adventure that allows explorers to take advantage of our experienced guides and discover geodes in the private grounds of Dugway, Utah. From June 13th to June 18th, you can spend a day with our guides and bring home up to 150 pounds of premium geodes. Registration required.
For more info, visit the Geode Expeditions web site. For the weather forecast for our area, see this link.

Fossil Collecting sites in North America

The information contained herein was provided by fossil people who generously offered it over the mail lists or sent it directly to this page.

It is always of the utmost importance that collectors be fully respectful of private property rights, and adhere to all laws and /or rules. One bad apple can ruin it for everybody...

Certain collecting areas might present special safety concerns. Collectors should carefully assess if their physical condition, level of preparedness, or choice of clothing or footwear might pose any special risks. This is especially true
