Has anyone had problems with this site tonite? I've posted pics, wrote 2 messages and none showed up, plus it keeps on shutting me down.

Anywho....Yakker gave me some great info tips and a site link to ID stuff. Awesome!
I truly believe that some of my findings are arrow straightrners?

Hi Katie, Sorry but all i see is a bunch of cool rocks. Iv'e been collecting rocks, fossils, and Indian relics for over 50 years. I have piles & piles of rocks all around and in the house. If you send me a mailing adress,i will send you a few cool rocks & relics to ad to your collection. You should check out your local museums to see real Indian relics. Watch for Gem & Mineral shows. They come thru here twice a year. Local libraries usually have great books on rocks, gemstones, Indian relics. Ask at the library & museum about local collectors. Meet them and go hunting with them. Most rockhounds are friendly and will show you where to hunt and what you should be looking for. If you are ever near Martinsville Virginia, let me know and you can come by and dig thru my piles. Yes all rocks. Nothing wrong with collecting rocks though. When I first started looking for N A artifacts I use to bring home rocks that looked like things we have today in nature. I then came to think that thousands of yrs before now they didnt have the same animals we have today and if they did they didnt look the same as ours do. So in that thinking I took a lot of those rocks back to where I found them and started to study the types the Indians would of used for tools. I found out most of the rocks I had picked up would of never been used for their tools. Either too hard or too soft. If you have flint, chert, or quartz where you live at I would be looking for those types as being used. Some sandstone was used but for Metate plates and grinding stones to polish their prized tools. Study all ID sites in your area and then look outside for them. If you have none in your area sometimes you have to go else where. Good Luck, rock

Thank you Indian Steve! I'm real green at this but always had the interest. I need to learn more about what to look for!!! Only have been to Martinsville once, I believe, it had a really neat NASCAR track?
I think my neighbors think that I'm nuts!

Hi Katie, Where are you located? Years ago, my wife, daughter and i spent winters in South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Louisiana planting trees and hunting rocks. My first year planting, i brought home over 500 pounds of petrified wood along with some great Indian relics. We live about 20 miles west of Martinsville. I still go to Georgia and SC to hunt. Hopefully, in January, i am taking Anna and a friend to Graves Mountain in Georgia and Diamond Hill Crystal mine in SC. Steve

Katie.. There has been many of times I've been told that all I'm doing is taking pictures of rocks.. In other words.. they (who ever they are) dont see the fasination in colloecting.. no matter what it is.. If it's soemthing you enjoy as I do.. then find them.. it can only lead to bigger and better things.. Once these persons commented to me about my "rocks" I proved them wrong be actually have one cut open.. they told me it was just a rock but turned put it was a thunder egg.. with grey chalcedony inside.. So dont let others dictate your hobby.

I agree with the Wizard says. If they give you pleasure, to hell with everybody else. I have rocks all over the house, covering the deck and yard. I once broght home a 1260 pound piece of granite because i like the way it looked. Most kids love rocks and i give away quite a few to kids that visit. Kids can still experience MAGIC and some rocks are magic. Unfortunately a lot of adults outgrow that. Keep collecting what you like. Share what you like. You can help make life better for other crazys like us. steve

Thank you for the kind advice :) I can see both sides and while I'm far from being an expert at any of this, I do enjoy 'the hunt' and seeing/learning about what it could be or actually is ;) I have now refreshed the rocks into my mini sidewalk area, tho! Ha!

There is nothing wrong with collecting rocks if that is what you enjoy, but if your intention is collecting Indian artifacts I suggest you visit some artifact websites, go to the library or a book store and pick up a couple books on artifacts so you have a better idea what to look for.

All I personally see in the pictures are rocks. Most of the time you will not have to use your imagination to see the artifact, but you always need your imagination to turn a rock into an artifact.

Mother nature makes trillions of rocks, billions of them can be turned into artifacts with a little imagination, but in the end they are still just rocks.
