Hello all, found this a few years ago and never really found out what it was. Thought it may be a furniture decoration but theres no fixing points. The object is made from thin pressed copper so I don't think it would stand up to much strain,so I think that rules out a drawer pull. So what was attached to the lions head and why ?. The object as a diameter of 4.5cm.

Regards Robert.

looks kind of like the lion was part of a larger peice of sheet copper. may have broken off because it was thin where is punched with the press. If that's the case, then perhaps it is part of the copper exterior of a small woodden box or other small decorative item.

Or..

Maybe something that went along side a window case for attaching the curtain tie when the drapes were open.

One more guess,

May have been one on the front and back of an important book that was then tied shut.

In the states the lions motif was everyplace during the Georgian & Victorian eras...

Interesting that it has a pull ring and is so fragile...

Looks very much like a Victorian door knocker but would have to have had a very solid back.

Maybe it was just thin brass but attached to something for purely decorative purpose.

I'm guessing it was one of a pair either side of a large outdoor pot

On one of my closets. It's the handle.

Maybe yours, too?

The Seth Thomas Clock Company used two of these, one on each side of their Mantel clocks.

You may be on to something, but it doesn't match exactly.
