Found this in the woods in an area dating back to the early 1800's amoungst some old foundations....was down about 8 inches and appears to be cast...any ideas?? Thanks.

DD...a furniture piece is what first came to my mind as well...something like a drawer pull or something like that??![]()

No problem. Harness bosses are brass or silver plated brass decorations for the ends of leather straps on horse bridles, etc.
A chimera is a mythical beast. Here's a good wikipedia article on it:
