I could swear that is an emblem for a type of european car. Maybe it was fastened to a grill on the front of the car. Just a thought.

Let's get a better idea for dating this.
I disagree with the Peugeot theory because of the clasps on the back and the fact that it looks hand crafted rather than a casted mold.
Can you provide a better description of the fasteners; i.e., are they tacks, and do they apear to be of the same metal, which I am guessing is a copper alloy that has been gilded or tinned, or are the fasteners ferrous and magnetic?
Also, where was this found? Where there any other relics?

I am guessing that this is likely a pendants that would be used on the harness of various classes Many smaller pendants and mounts were probably used as decorations on the bridle and reins as there is a great variation in the size of pendants - from as small as 13mm up to 73mm. Archaeological and metal detector evidence for these decorations has shown that they are invariably of copper-alloy that has been gilded or tinned and many, particularly the heraldic pendants, are also enamelled. These pendants were suspended from various straps on the harness including the peytrel across the chest, the brow band across the forehead, the head stall projecting upwards from the head and the straps attached to the crupper across the flanks.

Very cool, what ever it is...
That lion has popped up a lot lately. There are several post out here with a similar graphic, although on most of the others the lion is facing the other direction... While doing searches for them, I found that these lions are use on a lot of different logos, badges, etc...
One it was used for has something to do with the Scottish Clans... It maybe a buckle for a kilt, or bagpipes,,,Just a guess
Good luck on the ID & Happy hunting~

Hi thankyou for all the ideas, but still not sure. The clasps are of the same metal and appear to be all off the same casting. No more finds there either.

I dug this up a few years ago and have always been curious.
The shield is a bronze colour ,? but silver when scratched, it doesnt stick to a magnet.
it is 3.5 inches long and 2.5 wide. On the back it looks if it slides on to something.
any help welcomed.

Hi, I have just joined the board to reply to your enquiry about the shield. You or others on the board may laugh BUT this is not a car emblem and in fact I believe it could be from a statue.
First I would concentrait on the emblem on the shield, try to trace it through heraldry remembering that the Lion Rampant is usually associated with Royalty. It may be nothing but that is the way I would go and I am from England. Good luck in your endevour.

That's a good idea, Blue.

The lion looks practically identical to the Peugeot lion except facing the opposite direction. I would explore that avenue, too. Who's to say Peugeot didn't "borrow" the lion from some English source.

Whatever it is and whatever its origin it is still an interesting piece.

Thanks steve, i will have a look around, but it can prove difficult finding things on this vast internet sometimes , but i am inclined to agree with you about it not being a car badge and someone i showed it to also thinks its from a statue,so your idea maynot be so silly. they said they had seen something similar on a small staue of a man on horse back and the badge was fixed to along spear thing ? who knows. thankyou for taking time to write a reply mandy.
