That is very cool. But I don't think it's a buckle I think it's a decoration for a piece of furniture or fire place mantle. I found one like it a few years ago but it's has the green man on it instead of a lion.

There are no holes, no visible spots from solder, just four indents/bumps, two from the front, two from the back? Do you have a pic of yours? Also it measures 2 and 5/8's inches long by 2 inches high, what does your measure?

I'm thinking copper, not too hard to bend, I don't know how old, it is one of my things I'm trying to get help with on this forum. Just because it is deep is a good indicator of age, but that is not really the "end all measurement" I found a colonial silver 1731 coin at one inch at a different site, so old does not always mean it has to be deep. For all I know some kid could have buried it last year from his walmart belt buckle lol?

Thanks for your comments, guesses, and suggestions, its all a help in IDing this find.

Here's a pic of mine it's 3 1/4 inch wide. Unfortunately I can't take a pic of the back I repurposed it for my treasure box. Lol

It looks like there were two attachment points on the back side just outside of the two side dimples.

Your right, I haven't been looking close enough.

Might just be one of those ones I'll never find out what it is?
