found this in an old house, its a 1941 silver liberty dime. but why would someone do this? does anyone know why it is punched out like this?

Mercury dime I've seen this done to other coins usually worn as jewelry in one way or another

I used to do that, use jeweler's saws, did it to buffalo's also. Had to buy silver coins from Fed. Reserve bank, then you could make jewelry out of the coins you cut up.........NGE

thanks yall, i dont know anything about old coins.thanks for the correction on it being a mercury dime, now i know better. ;D ;D so whats its worth? just silver weight?

Probably not even a buck in silver but it is a very cool jewelry piece. :thumbsup:

That is so kewl!!! Can you give a quick run down on how you do it? Tools you need and so on.Would like to try that someday! Thanks
