This resembles the broken part of a rib, known as a rib head. To i.d. The creature based on this tiny fragment is near impossible.

High/Steep "banks" of Tributary's (creeks or small streams) that drain into 'Large' rivers..I found very productive too old digger.
All along east side of Rockies.(your stompin grounds now!)

Definitely looks to be a rib tubercle.
