Hello Everyone. I am looking to sell my new Minelab CTX 3030 detector. I purchased it a couple weeks ago to get myself back into the hobby. I took it out for a test drive for a couple of hours and realized I may have gotten in over my head on this. Way too many bells and whistles and adjustments for my liking. I bought the Andy Sabisch book, and even after reading that, I still felt overwhelmed. I need more of a turn and go detector, so I bought a Equinox 800 which I feel more comfortable with. So I am just looking to not take too much of a loss on this. It is basically a brand new detector with full 3 year warranty on it. Retails for $2,500, I'm asking $2,000 shipped lower 48 USA. Prefer PayPal Friends & Family or add 3% for business PP.

Thanks,
Bill

It seems like I am not getting any interest for my detector here. Maybe because everyone here already has a detector? I thought about Ebay, but between the their fees and paypal fees I would be losing something like 13% right off the top. Honestly, I would rather just keep it then lose that much money on something I just bought. I would be willing to let it go for $1,900, but I can't really go any lower. It just wouldn't be worth it to me. Any ideas on where might be a better place to try and sell this?
Thanks, Bill

Most serious detectorist know that buying a brand new machine online and in shops usually come with extra accessories for the same retail price. These may be scoops, extra coils, pinpointers, etc. This may be why your machine isn't showing the interest you expect.

Good Luck!

Just FYI and to re-align your expectations...I bought what you are selling BRAND NEW 3 years ago for the same price as your low dollar so far...MSRP was 2,499.00 and I paid 1,900.00 flat price shipped to my door. AND...that wasn’t the cheapest I could’ve bought it for(found this out later, every dealer sets their own price...within limits). Someone who is going to make that kind of investment will need a GOOD reason to buy used...i.e. quite a bit less. Yours has been opened, charged, used, etc. The second it “rolls off the showroom floor” it loses value. That, coupled with the fact that the Equinox now exists, isn’t going to help you. My “wild-n-crazy” suggestion is...that you KEEP it,if finances allow. While the Equinox might be a “simpler” machine and a nice swinging unit,it ain’t EVER gonna be a CTX. I have both, just for kicks...and I’m an “old coin” hunter. If you get acquainted with the 800 for awhile, and THEN start working with the CTX(and understanding EVERYTHING that it has to offer), you will know what I mean.
Not trying to discourage the sale! I’m just speaking from a “buyers” POV is all...:occasion14:

I appreciate the honest feedback. I guess I jumped back in too quickly and sounds like I got burned and overpaid.:BangHead: Oh, well. Live and learn. I am not really hurting for money so I think I probably will just make the most of it, and keep it, and try my best to learn it. Cheers.

I have 2 CTX's and an Equinox 800. Each I use for various tasks. I honestly love my CTX above all of my other detectors except for the weight and fear of taking her into water ( which is why I have the Nox & an Excalibur II). I love to use my CTX to cherry pick and to map areas I've hunted.

You will find the Equinox will serve you well too! I'm just not happy with the little quirks of jumping tones and shaft wobble.

If money isn’t on the very forefront of the conversation,IMO you didn’t “over pay” for the CTX Bill. A HUGE problem with it has been owners just not being open to it and what it can do. Minelab outdid themselves on that one and won’t ever replicate it. Just getting that set of “detecting basics” whipped back into shape will give you a good lead-in when you do decide to pick it up and start that “journey”. There’s just no other way to realize WHY it’s the King of Coins unless you TOTALLY immerse yourself in it. I’ve had mine for just short of 3 years and it has netted me exactly 348 silver coins from PUBLIC LAND. The accuracy of the target ID,the accuracy of the depth meter and the ability to “see” the coin in bad/deep conditions is key. 0-6” silver doesn’t exist here on public land...all gone, and was gone before I even started hunting. I’m going to use the 800 primarily for its speed in trashy areas, but when there’s very deep “cherry picking” to be done...the CTX with its accuracy and Target Trace is second to NONE.

Thanks for the encouragement and relaying your experiences with it. It helps ease my mind about keeping it.
