Hi Everyone,
I'll try to keep this short and sweet. March 17 of this year I found a class ring. I was able to locate the owner and return it. What a feeling!
Last night, after some spackling at home (fun stuff), I snuck out with JohnyMc for an hour before dark. We went to a park in Easton, PA that we (along with hundreds of detectors) have pounded. We normally try the spots we feel may have been overlooked, mostly the grown in areas and woods. We both found 1923 wheats the other night, and TnT2000 found great stuff there the next morning feet from where I ended my hunt (please read his post).
Well John says, lets go in the woods right here and get some silver. After 5 minutes, I had to get out. See I have this "thing" with poison ivy! Of course John says, you're a big ______! I know it, but have spent too many days laid up in bed looking like monster with ivy bubbles.
I walked out of the woods and started swinging. I get a signal jumping between dime and quarter giving me a high silver tone 4 inches down under. I popped out the clod and thought I saw gold. I stood up and swung again. Same signal. I pick up the target and busted off the dirt. BINGO! My second class ring in 3 months! This is a ladies ring from Warren Hills Regional (NJ-nearby) class of 1976 - 10KT Jostens with the initials inside. This is her 30th reunion year and I hope to get it to her. I'm just starting my P.I. work and will keep everyone posted. John walked out and there I was sitting with a big grin. He knew something happened but his expression was priceless when he saw the ring.
John is responsible for getting me into detecting (that's what I tell my wife). Besides selling me a Prizm5 that I love, he's been a great mentor. He let me pull seated dimes from a cache in Jan. that he located and we excavated over weeks.
Gyspsyheart noted in a post to my first ring find that "I believe we reap what we sow" and my finds have just been awesome since that day. I love metal detecting more and more every day! Besides all the great stuff, I got two great friends, JohnyMc and TnT2000, all from stopping by Johns store.
Happy hunting to everyone. (Sorry I got a little gooshy!)

Wow. I hope you can find the person who is missing the ring. James

Re: Lightening Does Strike Twice!!!!!

Great finds! No need to be sorry about poison ivy, I avoid it like the plague. Even i i brush up against one leave , I wash immediately. Those who get it bad, should avoid it. I think there are blocks out there. I talked to a surveyor who used it with great success, but I can't recall the name. Anyway, good luck with the ring ID.

Re: Lightening Does Strike Twice!!!!!

Thanks to the internet finding the owner is going to be so much easier. Good luck

Quite a 30 year reunion present.... At four inches down, it could have been there that long. Be nice to know the story. The class ring I found here at the beach earlier this month and returned was only gone 7 weeks. But a lot of folks walked over it in 7 weeks. The stories that our finds could tell if they could talk ;D ;D Nice find. Did your partner find any silver? Ralph

Hi Ralph
John only found some clad. You asked TnT2000 about the woods there. They are not that thick, but throughout there are remains of old stone tables and benches and lots of trails. They are actually great turkey and deer woods with nice trees and a lot of ground cover. No hunting (firearms or bows) allowed in the township.

Re: Lightening Does Strike Twice!!!!!

Really nice find... :)
If you find the owner, good for you... :)
As for the poison ivy...I have been there too...
For a time I used to look for real treasure, I got the works: from rain to fleas* to poison ivy to sun burns...
A lot of pain and nothing to show for it....
Still It was fun... :)

*Had to use dog soap to get rid of them.

Great deal Mark. Congrats and welcome to the hobby! Hope your able to find the owner!

Nice ring Mark. I have found rings a handful of times like that. I'll be hunting along in the woods and next thing you know your holding gold.

Good Luck with tracking the owners.

Great find Mark.......what are the odds of finding a second ring!!! I think I'd be playing the lottery on a regular basis if I was you!!!

Best of luck to you on returning the class ring. That sounds like an awesome old park where you found it.Probably best to hunt those wooded areas in early spring or late fall. With remains of old stone benches and tables the finds should be great.
Nice story and I hope it has a happy ending. HH!

Do not have class rings here in South Africa, but from reading all the messages on these forums, feel as if I know them. Hope and pray that you find the loser, it will make her day for her.

God bless
Peter
