This was found in a Lafourche Parish swamp, Louisiana, USA. It does not look that old to me but I am not sure. If anyone has seen anything like this please let me know. I am almost possitive it is a ear ring but not 100%, but what I would like to find out is about what time era it is from and what type of metal it is. It seems very thin but it does not bend easy, and it is rusty on the back way more then the front. I have also cleaned the item. Any information would be helpfull. I would like to think it is at least 50 years old because I found it in a area that has not been lived on in about that time, but it surely it does not look 50 years old. It was also found in a tree. It is also 2 inches high and 1 3/4 inches wide.

My call is - cheap modern earring. Caught in the tree during a flood maybe?

Looks like cheap jewelry, and with the Katrina hurricane it could have come from anywhere in New Orleans area...

I'm thinking ancient Egyptian :icon_farao: nose ring. You stick the small end up your nose and turn slightly to secure! :headbang: Hey, I didn't say I was good at guessing these things! :laughing1:

It is a cheap earring. Look at the very tip of the smaller piece. There was a tab that folded over which held the post on. Yours has broken off. I have a picture of my teen daughters earring and a copy of yours here for comparison.

Thanks for the help. Is there any way of knowing the age, or what it is made of?

thank you. I can see what you are talking about. surely something was there. I was looking at other images of old jewery and I saw a necklace simular to my image and it was cheap made sterling silver with a fake gem in the middle of it. The missing part on the small circle could possible be a loop for a chain, but I agree with you that something is missing from the small part, also that it must be cheap.

Age wise it can only be described as 'pre-Katrina modern' considering where and how you found it. A chain loop would show two breaks, not one continuous one. If I had a farm I would bet it on that item being an earring.
