it is a headlight handle(as you guessed) but could be from many vehicles, it fits a very standardized switch used heavily in the 60's and 70's. My 78 chevy has that same type of switch, had a 76 ford f-100 also had that type of switch. That type of switch was used on some boats, tractors, diesel trucks, even seen one on a really old snowmobile, but the knob itself looks like an aftermarket replacement.
