Well... I had a rough day but I managed to squeeze out silvers number 100, 101 & 102. I arrived at the 1887 house that I had gained permission on and I was greeted by the homeowner. She said "Sorry I changed my mind. I don't want you hunting the property."
I said "you're joking right?"
Her: "Nope I talked to my brother and he said he doesn't think it's a good idea."
I hesitated for a moment and then ran out of her enclosed porch because I just remembered that my wife dropped me off while she was going to go do some shopping. She drove off without seeing me I hurriedly reached for my phone to call her back. Ring ring ring ring ring... Nothing. She forgot her phone the lady sticks her head out of the door and said "is everything ok?" To which I replied
" Well... no. My wife was my ride and she dropped me off on her way out of town. She forgot her phone so now I'm stranded in the 103* heat, 12 miles from my house and I'm carrying around $5000 on my back in the ghetto... So no... It's not ok."
She said sorry and closed the door.
So I grabbed my gear hoofed it about a mile to my plan B house that was built in 1900. This place has been vacant for a long time and the weeds were thick and about chest high. So... I got ta pullin weeds. I cleared out a 5x5 patch to test it out. I would hate to pull all the weeds and not find anything. My first signal was a 1906 IH. Sooooo... I went back to pulling weeds. Long story short. It took me some time to get back in the mood but I ended up getting three IH's 1901, 1906, 1907 one Rosie (57), two Mercs 18 & 27 a Washington tax token, couple old rings and a suspender clasp. No seated. I'm sure it's just hanging out at that other house...waiting. I'm not usually that short with people and I understand her position but I just got royally shafted.

:icon_thumright: Glad you got your silver! :hello2: .... and ouch! OUCH! :BangHead: What a crummy start to your day! imo, the lady could've given you a ride or at least a cool drink in that heat! But maybe she was an ancient lady? Andi

Nice job Dr Tones adapt and overcome. I hope you have a camel pack? Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

We're judged by how we treat our neighbors and one day that woman will be placed in a similar situation and maybe then she will realize how she wronged you. It seems though alls well that ends well, those are seriously nice finds.

Her: "Nope I talked to my brother and he said he doesn't think it's a good idea."
.

I hate that response!, i got that before, I dont think its a BAD idea lol. Heck with them, you made out awesome anyway!

It has been said (time and time again) that things happen for a purpose. Looks like it worked out okay!

Glad your trip wasn't wasted and I'm sorry the lady changed her mind, that wasn't very nice but all in all ya done good.

At least you had a back up. Pretty sad when people can't make their own decisions.

Yeah, I had a similar situation in Cape Cod. Introduced myself to an older couple. The man was a bit aloof. The woman was very interested in the hobby and wanted me to detect the property which was several acres of prime property going back to the 1800s that was owned by a sea captain. It was evening when I met them and I came back a day or so later and even had a local atlas to give them as a gift. The man gets the woman when I arrive and she gives me the "my husband told me that his friend has detected the entire property already and that's where we got the pieces of pottery I told you about." And "oh, you don't need to give me that atlas, I can buy my own." I knew she was lying to me about the old man's friend, but got the hint and just said "ok, no problem, thank you." I was pissed off because my wife had just dropped me off too and I know the old man must have said "I don't want that guy digging in our yard--tell him to go away." I did end up going to another property where the owner had previously graciously given me permission and I found a few things there so all was not lost.

Wish I had a better reply ready for situations like this as it was very frustrating!

Yeah, I guess it worked out in the end. It's true though. Everything happens for a reason. It's just tough to get over that hump sometimes and realize that your "bad luck" might be saving you from "worse luck".

This is an important post for a couple of reasons , It clearly points out that expectations can (and do ) get dashed suddenly , and it
shows your resilience in the face of the disappointment - having a "plan B" really saved the day here ! Perhaps you can get a good
mower and clear some swing space at that obviously loaded area !

We need to come up with a whimsical response to these people when they kick us to the curb right as we're ready to hunt. Maybe something like ..oh that's a shame, I helped the last couple who let me hunt the property find lots of silver and gold metal...ok so it was silver and gold pop tops so its not a lie but we don't tell them that part.

how about you say this "I think im gonna go ahead and do it anyway cause its not nice to go back on your word":laughing7: lol kidding of course

I know that there are reasons why things happen. The other day I went to a favorite local school. All ready for a very nice, relaxing hunt in one of my favorite spots. When I got there, there was a serious little league world series/playoffs/tournament something going on! People EVERY-where!! I put my stuff back and went to plan B. (ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS have a plan B!!). And, that's where I found the gold and diamond bling I posted last. :)

Not quite the same as the lemons you were dealt but similar.

I think if I had been handed lemons like you got, I'd probably be tempted to stick to pieces of metal in them and hang them on their doorknob. So they could better understand the shocking experience they handed you. LOL ;)

The brother probably hunted it before and didn't want his sister to know just how poor a job he did. ;)
HH!

Way to hang man... Look's like those lemons tasted good!:icon_thumleft:

I'll bet you any money if the original property owner let you hunt there. I can almost guarantee you would have been skunked anyway. Sometimes, God, Karma, the Universe... Whatever higher power you want to call it. Sometimes this higher power helps us and we think its harming us... :notworthy: So we get all mad and out of place, when we were really being helped... :laughing7: You ended up with some nice finds, what an adventure !! :headbang:

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

Yup, fun by default :icon_thumleft:
