Hello, I'm curious if anyone has explored using LIDAR maps to find old mine sites? I assume that like lost cities mines have telltale signs that when LIDAR is used (it strips away vegetation to expose terrain) they can be discovered.
I tried this site w/o much success, I'm probably doing it wrong.

I did find a Youtuber that maybe teaches how to do it and overlay old maps:

In desert country I would think both a UAV and Lidar would be most helpful.

You need to filter the Lidar point cloud to eliminate vegetation. Most Lidar data includes more than just ground.

Yes great resource to see ditches, trails, wagon roads, diggings, ect.

Thanks, I got to playing w/it later today and found some of the trails I saw hints of on the ground when passing through this area, they're a bit more extensive than I anticipated.

be ready to leverage this data. it won’t be long and the entire country will have lidar data. they are flying my county currently so we will have 100% coverage.
