Hello All,

I think this is made of aluminum or tin. Used to have black lacquer or similar in the recesses it appears. No clue what it is or what it's from. Any ideas?

A bull maybe?.." not that that's helpful with just what it is from.

It looks like a deer or dog impression.

Looks like a deer to me, but I don't recognize the stance as a deer would make.

I see a horned cow head (or possibly skull) just below the hinge ??? outside the wreath, and what looks like it might be another cow head above it inside the wreath. The tail on the critter isn't right for a deer, seems like a twisted around cow tail. I don't think it's a kids toy gun belt buckle, which I thought at first. Looks more like a lid to something with sort of a western motif.

Wish i could figure out what on earth it's from. I have a hunch it dates to the 30s or 40s, judging from the other coins dug.

I zoomed in the picture, and still can't be sure. The hind end, and sort of the head looks like a dog. I think it was a belt buckle. Condition too poor to tell for sure.
I was thinking a "youth trophy buckle" for hog hunting.
Let us know if you find out more.

could it be pewter? Lids on tankards were always ornate like that.

A Doe, A Deer, A Female Deer, Ray a drop of Golden .... Sorry, got carried away.

Kia ora BuckleBoy and yet another intriguing find of yours :icon_thumleft:

I have tried enhancing your pic and is it as it appears that the yellow circled bits are wire, separate to the stamped portion?
And is the part in the red circle, some sort of hinge?

Not knowing how big your hands are, I'm not sure of the size of the item, but my thinking is maybe any of the following:
A link, or part of one, for a bracelet, or Victorian style, sash belt.
A top seal for a bottle of something tasty.
The lid of a Stein.

Cheers, Mike

I think it is a kneeling fawn.

I also think it is the remains of a dress sash buckle.

I was thinking perhaps stein lid or similar. The piece on the right in your photo with the red and yellow dots is indeed a hinge or loop. (The far right protrusion on the item). The yellow circles are not wire. Even the shred on the bottom is from plow damage/slicing I think. The piece was bent into a ball when dug, and I straightened it out flat, so it had been hit many times by the plow.

You're right--kneeling fawn for sure! There is a hinge/long loop on the right side of the item in the obverse photo. It is aluminum, almost certainly.

I think DCMatt got it. The image fits what I could see in the blown up image.
