???

I found this behind an old farmhouse that was built around 1920. It was around 4" deep and appears to be brass, but I am not sure. I know it is a lid to something. The latch is on the short end and the bottom was not in the hole. I guess someone discarded the lid when it broke. Has anyone seen something similar to this? Thanks for the look.

Looks like the old style tire tube repair. You would start it on fire and the patch would stick to the tube.JMO HB

That's what I was going to suggest, Good work HB.
With the help from a clamp that came with the patch kit, You would clamp the thing on your tube and light it on fire and it would melt itself to the tube.

Could be from a small sterling hair or clothes brush. The brush rotted away.

Baldingboy forgot to tell you that it was found at the same place I found my compact and pocket knife.

http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,92751.0.html

only reason I am mentioning it is I was with him when he found it and I told him I thought it was a lid to a pill box, or compact like the one I found, even was nice enough to show him where I found the other item on the post above.

Tomorrow Baldingboy we will rule the MD universe!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D :-[ :-[
