Found a pretty toasted Liberty Cap Half Cent yesterday. Is there a way of determining the date based on the head shape and where the pole falls down the neck line? I can see the 179 but can't see the last digit. Thanks!

Good looking coin, I'm guessing 1794. Congrats!

Very toasty, Try using the Macro mode on the Camera or phone hold it still and with use of some programs You Might Get a Date HH Chug

Good to see your getting out Aaron. Were you around our area?

Here's a worn 94 I have for comparison.

Might be able to find out some clues on the reverse, great find, congrats

Shoot just noticed it was a half cent.

Freaking sweet! :occasion14:

Regardless of the variety , these early half cents are a pretty rare find ! The original mintages are in tens of thousands or low hundred thousands. Nice Find !!

OOOOO....I do like that! Congrats on a great find.

You dug a liberty cap. Thats hard enough. Getting a date would mean little to me. Congrats

Cant help with the day but it is cool to find anything that old!

Congratulations! I would die if I found that.
I'm pretty sure I see a 5 at end.

Based on those long close denticles at the bottom over towards the pole, it appears to be a 1797, not sure of variety but might be a Cohen 2. 1797 Half Cent - Cohen 2

A 1700's US coin. Who wouldn't love to find that! Grats to ya, thanks for posting and HH ALL.
