I haven't posted here for a long time, but this is one I had to share. It's a liberty cap 1/2 cent. Dates from 1795 to 1797. She's pretty beat up, but I'll take her. My first coin from the 1700's. Found a couple hundred feet from a cellar hole I had been working off and on since Spring. And get this: it was only 2 inches down, if that! I found an 1808 half reale out there earlier in the year and it was only a couple inches down. Also, a couple tombac and pewter buttons.

Nice it has enough detail showing to ID it. I'd take it too.

. . . congrats on the half cent . . . it's always nice to make an id when there in that condition . . .

I love that half cent. Liberty Caps are my favorite coppers to dig.

She's Toasty, but she's a Liberty Cap all the same :icon_thumright:

Congrats on your first 18th century coin
May you find many more ;D

Swartzie,

And where did you say you found it? Lol

It's funny because it was actually found on public land. The land is public hunting and the cellar hole can be seen from the road if you're looking in the right spot. I'm sure somebody has had a metal detector out there before me. Any detector could have found it since it was only a couple inches deep. It's a ways away from the cellar hole though with nothing to indicate something may have been there. But, I think something was. I also found a flat button about twenty feet away. So, now I have a new area to focus on. Hopefully the snow will stay away because I have next week off work and I plan on doing some more hunting.
