Let's Try This Again

This is the second one of these I've dug over the years and I'm clueless as to what it might be. It is some type of concrete resembling a rivet and looks to be formed by a mold.
Any ideas O Knowled Ones??

Sorry I didn't show something to reference size, but it is appr. 3" in diameter and stands appr. 2 and 1/2 inches tall. Hope this helps. Good luck and BTW........I don't know what it is. It was found in a dump on a millsite which operated from 1840 until 1910.

Petrified hot cross bun?

You say it's concrete? Some kind of plug . . . one that can be chipped out easily?

But that idea is low on the Confedence-O-Reply Meter.

I believe it is what is called a "chair" for holding up rebar or wire mesh off the ground and then concrete is poured so that the rebar or mesh stays about half way in the concrete slab.

Angelo's suggestion makes sense. Another option might be a type of corner marker although iron pins set in concrete would be the preferred methodology.

Just a thought.......Could it be some sort of reverse sandcast mold for making rivets?

I doubt it. The rivet would be cast solid and you don't need a sandform for that, wood would likely be used. The sandforms are for the spaces and openings where the metal isn't wanted. (I used to work in a foundry that had a pattern shop for wood and bronze castings - but I don't claim to be an expert).

I like Angelo's ID. My only thought is that the ones I've seen have wires or clips for the rebar so they don't scoot out of place when the heavy cement flows in.

Here's another view. Perhaps this will help, although so far this has been a 'stumper'.

Could it be the top of a clothes pole?? Just thought perhaps the grooves would be to accomodate rope or line?
