Let's See Some Stuff!

I know that with everyone on this forum that goes to garage sales, that there has to be more of you, that buy more than just the one or two items that you post pics of. Let's see some pictures of all the actual stuff that you buy at sales, the good, the bad and the ugly. I'll post a pic of tomorrows massive pile of crap that I end up buying. I will include todays $100 worth of junk too. lol.

How 'bout it?

Here are some of mine at random. (Wait your not with the IRS are you?):hello:

Do we have to post pics? Does it have to be from a garage sale?

I bought two large boxes and a big bag of HO toy trains last week for a $100. All but 5 cars will go to the flea market, where in the past, have been great sellers. Even 3 the 5 that I held out for ebay are iffy, but I pulled two gems out that should sell quickly on ebay for $20 each.

If all the trains sell, and historically they have very quickly, I should clear a net profit about $220+, not including the 5 cars I held back, which could be worth another $60-$70.

I'm talking about when you get back from the garage sales, unload your goods and take a pic of the whole mess that you bought the whole day from all the sales. Or maybe i'm the only one that buys 20-50 items each weekend? I hope not.

100_1761.webpyestyerday i bought a banana box full of clear xmas lights....gotta decorate the camp....some fire king cups and one of them grease jars with the metal bale made by mccoy....oh yeah some marbles......

This was a private "pick"---not really a garage sale but a sale none the less. My sister has an antique/junk shop and has people come in all the time wanting her to buy stuff from them. She gets some really good deals in these private sales. And a lot of times she sees stuff that most people wouldn't even bother trying to sell. She also lets people do trade-in's and gives them store credit. Here's some pictures of a recent pick.....She paints a majority of the wood stuff and makes it 'shabby chic'....painted furniture sells like crazy around here!

Now that's what i'm talking about. Good stuff! That Niehoff piece will probably get you $100, just like it is.

Here is my pile of stuff that I bought between today and yesterday, not including the wife's 2 purses that will never be seen again. lol I spent $145 on everything, most of it yesterday. Only went to 4 sales today. Going back to the hoarder house tommorrow.

There is one piece here that should pay for everything.
It's a Steuben glass paperweight. Here is the pic of it-

The necklace was $2. Weight is 17 grams. The bracelet was $700, weight is 50 grams at an estate auction that I guess no one else brought $ too.

I wish now that I would have taken a pic of that hoard of trains that I bought. It literally wouldn't fit on our kitchen table, so I spread them out onto the kitchen counter too. Wife = not too happy.

Not a jaw dropping amount, but impressive. I didn't think anyone here would care.

Charmin,

That is an impressive haul!!!

That is my kind of junk!!!!

Thanks Clovis---this is the kind of stuff that sells best around here. My sister has a lot of guys that shop with her because she picks up this kind of junk. I think Pinterest has helped her a lot, too, because of all the ways to salvage and re-use old items like this.

She just got a load of architectural salvage pieces today--check out her facebook page for some pictures of the stuff she's picked up in the last couple of days: https://www.facebook.com/PromiseLandAntiqueMall?ref=ts&fref=ts
(I hope that's not against the rules to post a link like that?---if it is, just delete the link mods!)

Didn't have a great outing today. At every sale it felt like I was either way too late to find any good stuff or there wasn't any good stuff to begin with. I also got the feeling that I was making the wrong choices of sales to go to, or going in the wrong order, or something. Like I didn't read between the lines on the CL ads. No more than the usual number of sales that weren't going on, or opened late, or closed early, but it sure felt that way. I think there was only one sale that I had to drag myself away from; usually there are several. Anyway, the entire haul:

jewelry cow.webp
The jewelry on the left are all unmarked. The oval links on the necklace are almost certainly silver ($6), the vintage brooch with the huge mother-of-pearl shell might be silver ($8 lot), the little pineapple box is either plated or GF ($8 lot), the earring is probably silver (free), the maybe vintage heart pin is probably GF with an outside shot at being the real thing ($8 lot), and the rings are a toss-up ($5 lot).
The bits in the middle are marked sterling. The hinged bracelet is older Mexican with the eagle stamp ($1), the necklace claims to be Tiffany (free), and the link bracelet with garnets is really nice but I forget which foreign land the seller got it ($9).
The pieces on the right are almost definitely not made of any precious metal. The clasp earrings are made by Tortolani ($5 lot); the ring is nice and well-finished but made of steel ($5 lot); the bottom necklace is a small chain marked as GF on the clasp, hopefully the beads are GF too ($8 lot); and the ridiculous hoop necklace is plated copper and would have been an obvious no-buy if I had looked at the cut ends of the wire ($6).
The little cow creamer was nice and cute but it didn't survive the trip down the stairs in my house :sadsmiley: ($1). The spoon is sterling, but I got it on eBay and it arrived today. Just put it in to try to brighten up the picture a bit!

game boy lens crowns.webp
Now for the odds and ends. The Game Boy Color works as far as I can tell, haven't tested the games yet (Pokemon Pinball, Pokemon Blue, Tetris, Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, Kirby's Pinball Land). With carrying case for $10. The Polaroid close-up lenses and leather case are in great shape; the case even has a built-in measuring tape for focusing! ($8 lot). The other lens is a Gemini 28mm f2.8 prime for an old Canon mount, looks unused ($5, reluctantly). Neither of the two Mini Mag Lites work. Looks like the regular one just needs a new bulb, the LED is missing the entire lamp assembly (free). The Zippo is a little puzzling. The engraved brass (plated?) case and plated inner bit looks well-used, but the cotton and spare wick look very fresh. Thankfully no monogram, but the striking wheel is stuck and needs a little work overall ($8 lot). What about those two boxes?

open crowns.webp
Teeth, in kid size and adult! They look like they're in great shape, if incomplete. How could you pass these up? ($8 lot)

kaiser flag.webp
And the backdrop is an old Kaiser Steel oversize load flag. Not the best shape, with a big oil spot and some paint drips on the other side, but damn if that isn't a good-looking oversize load flag! ($1)

And a little extra for any photographers, the awful composition of the 28mm example, and the overall silliness of the comparison:
lying box.webp

What are the teeth made of? I hoped to be posting pics of yesterdays finds. There were almost 20 sales here which is a lot for my area. Unfortunately all I found were 2 dvds for a $1 & 3 Lego Bionicles MIB for another $1.

Clorox,
Zippos have a lifetime warranty. They will replace the innards and hinges. They don't mess with the case itself except to polish the brass.
I sent them an ancient lighter that was worn down to the brass and got it back with everything replaced except the case.

That is a nice bracelet. I'd piece it out if I was gonna sell it. The wife found it's sterling counterpart a while back for .50.

Those cigarette packs are very cool, great graphics! They sell well too, just in case you plan on selling them.

Always looking for good 80's metal lp's. Those monster head molds are a great find. Let us know how you do when you sell them.

I'm almost never the first one at the yard sales but do manage to hit all the sales in my area before 8:30. Seems like I either do real well or get skunked. There aren't too many days in between the extremes.

I'm very curious about the teeth. Most of them look like that alloy(chrome/nickel/??) a lot of dentures are made with. There are a few that appear to have a gold tint. I guess that could be the lighting.
