Let's Bury the Hatchet and Have a Drink! (5th time with the DFX)

Hello all,

Checked a newer park near an appointment I had today. Obviously something else was there prior to the park.

The hatchet was at about 6 inches and rang on the DFX at a 95 as a quarter then a dollar. Being so large it said it was at .5 inches. The hatchet measures 20inches by 6 inches. The coaster is aluminum and is marked "Hand Forged Everlast Metal" There is a arm and hammer and an anchor for a logo. Found that this is a houseware from the 1950s that is pretty collectible.

Is there anyway to clean the hatchet so I can get it back to bear metal to check any marks? Thanks for the help!

Re: Let's Bury the Hatchet and Have a Drink! (5th time with the DFX)

is that a hatchet or a meat cleaver?

A HUGE cutting tool, looks like a meat cleaver. I'm guessing there would have been a wood handle around the part to the right. Neat find!

I don't have all that many "hard and fast" rules that I adhere to....but i NEVER drink with a guy weilding a 20 inch meat cleaver!

"HEY JOE, where you going with that gun/hatchet in yo hand, na na na na naaaa"

Sorry, had a flash back to the 70's.

Connect one side to the negative on a battery charger and put in bucket of water, add salt for conductivity, connect positive end of battery charger to peice of copper pipe and put in same bucket. I may have polarity wrong. It should start making bubbles. Not sure you want to do this in unvented area.

There is also a soda ash solution for cleaning rusted metal used in hot tanks for cleaning engine blocks and heads that might work well. Search the internet for hot tank solutions. A friend of mine uses cascade dishwashing liquid but you probably need heat and pressure for this method.

cool coaster.
