Maybe a gauge of somekind. Are the legs the same thickness?

They appear to be the same thickness 0.035" inches

One time several years ago, I had the job of installing ceiling pieces. I made a gizmo like that with two long wood pieces to copy the angles in the corners and then scribe the corner tiles , I still have it. Bob ;D

That would be about right for old spark plug gauge, ...I think.
Clean it and look for markings. I think its a gauge.

Took me some looking but I dug out something I have that may be for similar use.

These were reproductions from a muzzleloading gear supplier of an original set of "calipers" that are used to get a better grip on the 2" or so of wood ramrod that sticks out of a muzzleloader when cleaning or pulling a ball that can't be fired. May or may not be what you found, but the similarities are noteworthy. Originals would likely have been 1830 to 1870 or thereabouts.

I found them to be overly hard on the ramrod - they chew up the wood and scour the brass tips.
