Been tumbling out my clad over the last few days. Trying to do no more than about 12 loads a day. Think I used the last bucket of clad I had from this year. Anyway between the eyes and the environments I sometimes mix 'em up when I'm doing the sidewalk work or the parks. But once cleaned I find it easier to pick through and sort some of the oldies that went into the clad buckets by mistake.

I sent a few loads of wheaties to the coinstar but they were fairly common and held no particular interest. But here's some I liberated from the clad piles for this year. I have two other bus tokens from Elgin's old bus lines so this E token is nice to add. Can't date it but it's not all that old. The gold button has FD on it with no backmark so I couldn't tell what it might be from. Maybe not that old either.

Wow, nice leftovers! Seeing those Indian Head cents gives me more confidence that I'll find more next year. I've only gotten one this year and would love to get some more. Nice buffs and V's too, you are a detecting machine.

I'm going to make sure I head out to Elgin next year for some digging pleasure. Maybe you can show me some "hot spots".

Awwwww leftovers again? I hate leftovers....... :tongue3:

Yeah gotta remember to take my eyeglasses along when I hunt so the goodies can go in the goodie pouch and not get all mixed up with the others. I did pull a huge number of nickels this year but most being Jeffs I didn't often inspect too closely unless they come from the ground in an older layer of dirt. The IH's were clumps of dirt in with the dirty clumpy mem piles. The tumbler cleans 'em well enough for me though in the past I ruined otherwise very clean ones with that beautiful patina in the tumbler, probably so with a few of these.

Here's to seeing better next year.

In regards to tumbling, would a rock tumbler work with coins? I've got one of those deals that smoothes rough "gems" and turns them into smooth pretty rocks, for use with cheap jewelry accessories and keychains and whatnot. Could I use that tumbler for coins? It's basically a toy and probably wouldn't hold a ton of coins.

Yep, tumble it Joe! Just don't put any key date coins in there, or ones you can't see well enough to determine their numismatic potential, as I do. This process is for cleaning large volumes of clad at year's end.

I use a Thumbler's Tumbler and usually get about a 3 to 4 lb. load at a time in the bin. Add a small amount of coarse playground sand and some soft soap and a cup of water. Tumble the load for about 45 mins. then sort the cleaned ones from the ones that need a second run.

Check out those tumblers!

Cool, thanks for the info. This one here is made by Edu-Science. I'll try it out, worst that can happen is that it may not work, but it's not doing any good sitting in a box in my storage anyhow.

Man, this is going to be a long, suck-ass winter.
