Keep at it. Your yard is the best place to practice. Happy Hunting!

:metaldetector: My friendly advice to All newbies is to pay your dues at " metal detecting bootcamp " aka any Elementary School in the US of A for a month and you will be ready for the next level . Good Luck

Bought a new White's detector a few months ago but have not been able to get out much. After doing some practice swinging in my yard I decided to dig a target indicated as a penny, sure enough there was a penny, a 1982 regular penny. No big valuable find but I did get good experience learning how to listen to and use the pinpoint function!

Don't pay to much attention to those icons. They are not reliable.

just a side note.... the metallic composition of pennies has been changed a few times over the years, so your Prizm may react differently to pennies of different years of mintage. for example, my XLT will give different VDI readings depending on the composition of the penny if it is copper, or copper/bronze, or copper plated zinc, etc. The best thing to do is dig everything and read and listen to your machine on every target for a long time. You will gain a huge amount of knowledge about how it reacts to certain targets.
