I was searching in almost neck high water with my pouch filled with iron spikes on my hip I dug, my detector in one hand and scoop in the other I stepped or fell down a drop off to water to deep. Thank goodness I'm a strong swimmer. everyone be careful out there. Goodluck HH.

Glad you're ok. It certainly is a hazard hunting in deeper water. I would want to be prepared to detach from all the gear with one or two quick releases.

If your hat floats you are getting too deep.
Maybe that's another use for belly buttons besides carrying lint ...as depth gauges of a maximum , nearly safe level?

Yeah, waist high is as deep as I go; but, its really easy to get distracted (especially if you have found a sweet spot) and not notice the tide coming in on you. Glad everything ended up okay. Only takes that one time though to wake you up and you learn quickly to keep your wits about you when you are water hunting.

Happy Hunting

but the drop off is where all the rings are...

Lol no sharks here

Annapolis MD, man how I'd love to go detecting in your area! Have inlaw family in Frederick & Baltimore, hunted in Frederick only the last time there, but lord the history and towns are beautiful, loved Annapolis! Glad you made it back to shallow water safe! I had that happen in the Columbia river once, one minute I was standing in ankle deep water next to the boat, the next step I was in over my head and never felt bottom! The area has been dredged and I barely had time to gulp air and shut my mouth, the others in the boat had a laugh out of my dissappearing act. Good thing you werent carrying more iron than you could swim with! Good lesson indeed! GL & HH! I can't wait for my next trip to Maryland! I could live there and it sure would improve my finds!!!

Water hunting is really the only hunting you can do. To many rules and laws on land.

You need to get ahold of Casper - He's got quite the contraption for deep scoop hunting.............

Simple fix just get a PFD manual inflate to use at new locations, Once you learn a area you fairly much know what to expect. Also use this little chart to get a idea of what your walking into before you head out to a new location.

Also bull sharks have been seen by a few hunters up north last summer. As the skates go north, so do they.

True they do come up the bay forgot about them lol

Yikes man! It's easy to get relaxed and zoned out in the water. Almost hypnotizing sometimes. Glad you're safe Be careful next time.

Got a picture of your scoop and detector?

(just in case I wanna call dibs)

-hey.... the rest of you were thinking it too.

Glad to read you're alright. Like Duke Kahanamoku said
"Never turn your back to the sea!"

a good reason to try and use a mask and snorkel if yu can
