Last Saturday I dug this small item at a site known as the Battle of the Sinkhole which was led by Sauk Chief Blackhawk in the Spring of 1815 and is widely regarded as the last engagement of the War of 1812.
Five years ago I dug a pistol/musket ball and a very rusted hand folded axe head at this site.
The item is composed of several metals, all non-magnetic. I scraped it on two sections and discovered lead at what I call the top of the piece which also had the tell-tale white patina of old buried lead.
When I scraped along the side of the item it showed what appeared to be brass or copper. It also has what looks like a small metal tab extending off one side.
I'm not expecting much in the way of an ID but it has me baffled so any help is appreciated.
If my pictures suck let me know and I will get some better ones posted.
