I dug this up the other day, and at first thought it was a flattened out 3 ringer, but now I'm not so sure. Anyone else have any thoughts ? The area has produced numerous Civil War relics already. It is shown next to a half dollar, which is getting ready to be posted over on Todays Finds :dontknow:

The measurement across the broader part of the inner ring is 1.015", the narrower part .685 "
Overall length 1.20 " diameter .86 "

Weight 27.5 gm

Here it is next to a slug that I THINK is a 12 ga., although it's possible it could be 16, and a side view, as well as closer pics of the hole(s). Thanks !

It looks like it could be a shot gun slug to me. I have no idea what would cause the hole though.

Another Lead whatsit-flattened bullet ?

Hay Dcinffxva,

I found something very similar to that,

My guess is that it is a simple line weight...........

Just put a mini on a surface that will make a hole
and pound it.

Here is a more complicated line weight made from
a mini ball........ This method allowed one to put a
weight on a line without tying a knot. The mini ball
was flattened and folded over the line,

I think altered mini's are neater than drops,

Like these chewed ones,

Something about your lead wahtzit that
is very interesting.

This tiny hole seems to go all the way through,

It appears to be drilled.

I wonder if that was for a string or something?

Thanks for posting.

Hadn't thought about it being used for a fishing weight/net weight. The site isn't far from the river, so a definite possibility.
