Lead Token?

Here's a lead token a smidge bigger than a penny. Found in river amidst 1880-1920 era stuff. Used light, blurry photo to best illustrate what's still visible. Central figure is a shield. Looks like numbers (date?) with a couple of 8's underneath point. Other writing around circumference is obliterated. Nothing on reverse. Any ideas? Thanks, Dan

Thats an interesting find. Is it made of lead? It could be some sort of a tamper evident lead seal. They used to put tamper evident seals on railroad cars after it was loaded.
Just a guess though. I would keep it and try to do more research on it.

Thanks bk--it's lead

I think it's too small to be a railroad seal
