Lead Slug from French Fort 1730 - 1770

I found this large lead slug at the site of an abandoned French fort. The fort was occupied by the French from 1730 - 1790. Anyone know what this slug was fired from (if it indeed is a projectile).

I think someone on here awhile back talked of a wall gun i think it was called, but hang on someones on there way. or a big egg sinker.

Most likely a 1 pounder swivel gun.

Just trying to be helpful here. You say you found it at a mid-1700s fort. Cannons from the Colonial Era did not fire an oval-shaped projectile.

Also, the photo with the ruler shows it is about 1.25-inch in diameter, which excludes it from being a Colonial-era gun/musket projectile.

I do see the "shoulder" on it that you mentioned. That had to have a purpose in the object's function. The shoulder indicates this object was a "something" -- not a "nothing."

I've never seen dug-up lead which has that peculiar color. It almost looks more like iron-rust. Are you certain the object is made of lead?

The "shoulder" may be a casting line, or at least it looks that way to me. The color reminds me of pot metal, I've dug old toy cars that had similar patina on them. What it is, I don't know... Bell clapper comes to mind, clock weight?
