Lead "Shoe Heel" ??

I found this about three inches deep this afternoon, don't think it is very old but I just don't know what it is. The size and shape looks like a shoe heel but it appears to be made of lead (except for the two nails) No markings that I could find.

Re: Lead "Shoe Heel" ??

The bottom of the "heel" looks scratched up a bit. I doubt this heel went on anything animal/human - nail length obviously long - perhaps it was put on bottom of table leg to avoid leg wear?

Re: Lead "Shoe Heel" ??

old flat track motorcycle racers used a lead shoe device as a balance going into turns, put inside foot down and drag(no brakes)
so it begs the question, where you searching near an old track or somewhere that had history of motorcycle owners?

Not that I am aware of, it was a park/fairground. The only racers I ever saw wearing metal on their boots had the whole sole covered with a metal plate. The large nails are the main thing steering me away from it actually being a heel. (But they could have been put there later and it used for another purpose) I would think it it were a heel it would have small holes around the edge for smaller nails.

The bottom is not only scratched up a bit, the edges are slightly "mushroomed" like it had been walked on. If no one has any other other ideas I think this has been solved, still a mystery as to how it came to be where I found it. I don't think those nails belong there though.
I would like to thank both Stegner and Kansasippi for your response your input is very much appreciated. Thank You, Thank You and have a great day.
