Hi guys:

I was cleaning out some old finds from a few years back and stumbled across this. Someone said it might be a lead seal, but any idea about the inscription V.O. Co.?

I thought it was a military button, but any help is appreciated.

Dug out in a field in LI, NY in late 2011. Been sitting in my drawer ever since!

Thanks

I wish I knew how to upload pics. I have a large tray of lead seals. One has a date of 1854 on it. Lead seals were used on many things besides railroad cars. A lot of utility companies put them on meter boxes. Wire bales had lead seals to indicate the gauge of the wire. I think there might have even been a champaign bottle with one on it.
