It's really hard to say on age, as lead seals have been used a long time. If I was to guess on the writing on your seal, I would say _____ Bro's N.Y. Could be anything infront of Bro's.

Yep, it's a lead Bag or Bail Seal. The letters or symbols generally represent the country of origin. Below is one I found a few weeks ago marked SAL. It stands for Sal Island, Cape Verde Africa, which basically was a SALT mine island during the 1600-1700's. Sal is Portugese for Salt. Here's another good website:

Ty 72Cheyenne and Breezie. Great links, I bookmarket them. I was about to through them away until you guys helped me figure out what they are. I have to find about 3 others that are in the basement. :icon_thumleft:

my last name means salt -- salis -- cum grano salis --"with a grain of salt" in latin

I;m ivan "the salt" --great name for a sailor which I was.
