Lead ring - but just what is it?

Found this item, made of lead and about 1.5" round in a siege of Suffolk site (found part of a Hotchkiss sabot in the same area) but this has me wondering as to just what it is. Anyone seen one or know what it is? Thanks.

At one time there use to be old lead pipe. Wonder if that is a slice of an old pipe.

Sure looks like a slice off an old lead pipe to me. ;-)

I have a friend with a salvage yard that "gifts" me such old plumbing scrap for converting into round lead cast balls for muzzleloading.
