My wife wrote with it, and it looked good. Pretty sure that's what it is.

It does look like a lead stylus, these have been in use since roman times.

That's cool! I have one that I found in a Union camp. I also wrote with mine. Cool to think the last guy to write with it was probably a CW soilder. Very nice find. Personal items are my favorite.[emoji106]

I know, I just downloaded the app for tn, and it's different. Just now figure it out. Couldn't figure out how to post pics

How do you think they wrote with it? On to what? (did they have wax tablets?)

I think they were used to put cut marks on stones, although there maybe another use I'm not familiar with?

It will write on paper or anything a regular lead pencil will . Here is what I wrote with mine.led write.jpg

Yea, I wrote on paper with mine too

Well I was told that if it writes with a southern draw(l), then it probably belonged to a confederate soldier.
Congrats on a cool find.

Lol, hey I resemble that! Haha

Paper man. It was rare, but that's what went home. I got a few letters, an diaries from civil war. As for the confederacy, the letters usually never made it. The union usually stopped postage by force! Haha

I tried some of mine on paper & its not that affective, but I agree its possible & something I have never heard of. Interesting, a case of making do with what they had.

Very interesting. Over the weekend My wife and I each found a .58 cal 3 ringer that had been sharpened to a point like a pencil. This has me wondering if they may have been used in the same way?

Could have been. I know this one writes pretty well.

That would be the easiest & quickest solution, so makes logical sense.

Finding that would put some lead in my pencil. Awww... Come on.... Someone had to say it!
