Hello to all,
I hope everyone found more than I did today.

This lead object was found two weeks ago and due to a post on this forum yesterday where another posted a similar lead object, I thought to join in.

This piece is lead and has heavy patina. The ends are carved and possibly hammered. Its dimensions are: Width approximately 1/2 inch by length 1 inch. There were stories about civil war bullets being found in the neighbors yard. Found next to an improved well with concrete surroundings, next to a road that has been there for hundreds of years. It weight is 36 grams and it is roughly 60 caliber. Thanks for looking. lead1.webplead2.webp

Looks very similar to mine. Possible a carved bullet reject maybe?

Comparison with a carved enfield on the right, fired unknown bullet and then the object in question on the left

Does it have a small hole all the way through? Looks like an egg sinker.

No the hole is on one end only. Looks like the cone in the base of a bullet. Also has a rifle ring possibly in middle.

Boy that's a Tough call ,IMO Jeff.

W/O seeing it in person, & if it were mine, I'd 'Go with'....54 or 58 ( did they make .57/.58 Round Balls ??? Don't see one in my small book. ) ? anyway 54 or 58 cal Round ball likely fired out a smooth Bore ; the dinged around after being fired.?

Or a piece of Lead .50 + caliber Case / Grape shot?

Tuff , to date , (cause it's ugly 'like me' ) lol, As Balls were used before the War & after & lead had many uses.

If you found it near other Civil War relics (Not a For Sure) but ; if it were my dig ..I'd go with Fired Round Ball.
GD A/11.
