I found this today, normally I would call it trash but I found it in a remote area that hasn't revealed anything but 1820's artifacts, no trash, so I'm wondering if anybody has an idea what it is, if it is lead (seems heavier than normal but a bit light for a hunk of lead that size) could it be for making balls? Ive never heard of lead for bullets coming in sheets but I'm no expert, the other thought is maybe pewter but no idea what it would be

Looks more like a bullet or piece of lead that was chewed on by an animal.kinda looks like teeth marks

Hi; I believe it is a fired lead musket ball that has struck something like a rock. The piece is obviously intentionally made by hand into that shape if it is NOT a fired bullet. Yes they would fold it up like that to better fit into the bullet mold thereby making it easier to melt ok. Nice find. PEACE:RONB

Looks like a hog used it as chewing gum for a while, but it's impossible to say what what it was before. For all anyone knows it might have been a weight off of an old fishing seine and had nothing do do with the war, but it's fun to imagine the possibilities.
