Metal Detecting
I’m taking full advantage of the temps in the 50’s here in Michigan, I got out to a homesite today I found on the 1874 map, it was my 1st time here but I’ll be back for sure. I was finding the typical farm field stuff and and hit a good iron patch that I’m guessing was the site of the house I got a few wheat pennies dating from 1917-1930, I found 2 buffalo nickels but I must of dropped one lol. Signals started to dry up so I worked closer to the woods I found 2 buttons that look like they came from the same coat or shirt, then I got a eagle button which I’m really happy to have as it’s only my 2nd in 20 years of metal detecting, about 10 feet any from the eagle button I got a deep 29-30 on my 800 I was thinking silver quarter I dug down about 5 inches and I checked the hole with the pin pointer and still had a signal after digging down about 8 inches I seen what appeared to be brass knuckles laying in the scoop of dirt I pulled out but when I picked them up I was like wow!!! Lead for sure. They are heavy. Just when you think you couldn’t find anymore crazy stuff.. you find more crazy stuff. Thanks for read enjoy the pictures

Very nice finds, congrats!
Lead knuckles is def a new one for me, bizarre.
Thank you, Yeah I was vary surprised by the lead. But we know lead was cheap, easy to get and easy to work with then other materials. The area I found them in and as deep as they were just blows my mind. I never knew knuckles dated back way longer than I thought. After researching them I learned people carried knuckles of this style since about the mid 1800s. Just wish I could find more info.

I wonder if the lead set was used to make a sand casting. It would be easy to work with and shape. Then brass, or other metals could be poured into the mold.

Certainly a very different recovery, and a first that I have ever seen.
They'll be a great display item for sure! Congrats

Thank you, yeah I tried to display them in one of my wife’s cabinets already, but she wasn’t having it.. 😆 lol

Funny we value our dug treasures-but they just don't get the same respect from the other half when it comes to showing them off. :laughing7:

Acejeckel, Congrat's on the find and Saves of the Eagle button and the "Lead Knuckles". These could be from the CW period, as brass knuckles have been recovered from some battlefields, and some few soldiers were known to carry them. Maybe some old veteran lost these, seeing how these were found in the same area as the Eagle button. How would you like to be on the receiving end of these? A rare find. Well Done.

Thanks, I’ll pass as to being on the receiving end.. lol 😂

Sweet finds. I've always wanted to find a pair of those brass knuckles so I can give my brothers knucklehead sandwiches.
Congrats to you,
MM

Very nice finds be sure to keep them

Nice finds ! Knuckles may very well date with the Eagle button, they've been found on CW sites. I dug a blob of iron in a CS camp that cleaned up into a set of knuckles that are to small for my small hands, so I can only assume they are from the period.

Thanks. That’s exciting info.
