Found this at a spot that's been giving up 1700's flat buttons and musket balls, so I'm hoping it's from that era. My first thought was a lead hem weight, but there's no hole in the middle to sew it into a hem. There's a round depression on each side of the weight, but no hole.

The weight is slightly larger than a quarter and weighs 27.76 grams, which is close to one ounce. Could it be an old scale weight? I don't see a number on it, but it's pretty toasted. It's a lot thicker than a hem weight as well.

Give me your opinion on this one. Is it a colonial scale weight, hem weight or something else? Thanks!

I'll vote for scale weight, having the round cut in the middle either a stamp hole or for getting the correct weight. Is there anything on the other side of the piece? weights

Wow, that's really cool! Definitely not a common find. Here's some slightly better pics.
