no mate but the bloke who does the gardening at the place i detecting thought it could of been a lead bullet for a but gun :dontknow:

he might of said something else in the terms of a gun when there used to put all sorts of items in a big gun ie metal bolts glass etc i have heard of before some where :dontknow:

Blunderbuss maybe? They stuck allsorts into those.

This may be a swinging counterweight for targets on a rifle range. :dontknow:

That's my thought too. The romans used lead sling stones, and isn't there a jumbo Roman crossbow that shoots stones?

Damage could be from a plow (plough) too.

Are you sure he didnt say "punt" gun? I dont think they used solid ball in a punt gun just shot.

I'm wondering if the Farmer in the Dell mammy-made lead eggs to put under his hens to encourage them to lay eggs. :icon_scratch: Breezie

I'll vote for that, Breezie. Would be easy to do on the farm, you could melt the lead from scraps of such, pour in a mold, paint white and presto free lead egg, and the old fidgety laying hen wouldn't be able to kick that out of the nest easily.
