Lead coin ID?

looks like someone made a cast. They may have been counterfieting coins. They would make a cast frm lead, then use pewter or a lesser metal to make duds.

The eagle, with arched motto above, looks like the reverse of both the draped bust or capped bust quarter.
Diameter would be about 24mm; for a half dollar--about 32/33mm.

I've seen several of these type things come out of Civil War camps. I believe it is where soldiers pounded an impression in the soft lead with a coin. Whether out of boredom, trying to counterfeit or make a mold, I can only conjecture.

Great find. One day these counterfeiting tools and coins will start to be collected. The Colonial CFT's already are highly collectible. Just waiting for CFT reales and other coins to come into their own.

I find them over here, just someone bored sticking lead into a coin to make an impression.

One Like it

Found this just dismissed it as a lead weight it got mixed in with my clad coins. I got around to cleaning them up and found it and said what the heck and cleaned it up hard to see from the photo but it says United States of America in reverse and can make out a few arrow points like that the eagle holds in his talons. On the back side of coin you can make out stars around the coin. I have found other civil war era relics in the area union army button, powder flask and a spur but this coin pendant made of lead I would have to say is the prize of the spot so far.

I found this piece today while hunting arrowheads. It's actually lead and the letters are inverted like a negative. The images are only clear on the one side. The other side you can make out a few stars on the outer edge but no date. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

In my opinion, a better find than a coin! (looks like the 50c Mackaydon mentions)
I don't think it was either a mold, or intended to pass as coinage, as Cru says, just a handmade keepsake.
I have a very well made impression of an 1868 shield nickel on a lead plate,
all details are super, you know how small the dates on these are,
CFTs ranging from GII half Pence thru Draped Cents, and Bust coins have been recovered
from this site, I think making duds was a local families pastime thru several generations.
Evidence of casting other items here also, why not a few coins while you're at it ?
Awesome Recovery! Congrats to you and HH! Herbie.
