Found this half completed mass of lead out in the woods just south of Fort Worth Texas. It was under some leaves, maybe sunk in an inch or so. The ball part is about 2" in diameter. I don't think a lead cannonball would go over too well? And there are no fishing spots for quite a ways. There is not a lot of junk where I found it, no signs of nearby early homesteads. Don't think anyone would have drug it out in the woods to dispose of it. I think someone made it where I found it. Any ideas?

I found a similar looking object near an old homesite in TN that had burned...turned out to be melted Zinc from the roof.

Sorry guys I didn't take it home with me. Just took pictures with phone. Guess I will grab it next time to clean up and take some better shots for scale and detail.

You can rule out being a cannon ball that's for sure. It looks like someone started to melt it and quit and discarded it for whatever reason. If it is really old, it would not be unusual for the early travelers and explorers to carry some lead to make bullets when supplies ran low. But I can't say for sure what it is from what is posted. Interesting though. Monty
