I figured I'd save this one for last. I have been twisting my brain trying to figure out what this piece is. Dug this about thirty feet from the river's edge (again, from the old town site - just a bit further down river). I still do not have an electrolysis system set up yet (working on it), but I have cleaned this piece quite a bit since recovery. Where the hole is was packed solid with rock-hard clay - I gently used a small nail (who says square nails are junk ) to clean out as much as I could without damaging the piece. I then scrubbed the heck out of it to get most of the large "chunky" bits of corrosion off. At first glance, one would think it to be a small hammer or pick of some kind, but it is not. The hole is not in the right place for it to be one of those choices. Almost looks to be a lever of some sort, but for what?! Both sides are fairly well proportionate to each other although it does look hand forged (hammered?). The last photo shows a close-up of the one end that seems like it was chipped at some point. You can also see a little bit of the metal itself through the little bit of crust that still remains. I'd love to get a positive i.d. on this piece. Any help would be fantastic. Thanks again... 8)
